Hello, my name is Biana Dzhoneva. I am a landscape architect with 4+ years of experience and international exposure. I was born and raised in Bulgaria but currently live in the United States. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Forestry in Sofia, Bulgaria, with a master's in landscape architecture.
Throughout my education, I studied various subjects, including Botany, Dendrology, Floriculture, Irrigation Systems, Geodesy, GIS, Theory of Landscape Architecture, Park Architecture, Park Development of Settlements, Recreational Parks, Special-Purpose Parks, ect. My thesis was on the recreation of Park influenced by Japanese garden practices.

During my last year of university, I went to Alaska and worked as a groundskeeper in a hotel located in Copper Center. I had many responsibilities, but some were mowing the grass, fertilizing, and cutting dangerous trees. This experience teach me how important the maintenance side of landscaping is and that you always need to consider what you design and how it will work in real life.

After graduating, I worked in Bulgaria as a junior landscape architect. I collaborated with the senior landscape architect and contributed to many projects, mainly commercial ones.
I also supervised both building and maintenance crews.

While working in Bulgaria, I was accepted for a post-graduate course in Italy. The course's topic was Architecture for Landscape by YACademy. I spent three months intensively studying different subjects in Bologna and meeting one of the best European architects and companies. At the end of the course, we had a competition to develop a memorial Alpine bivouac. The winning project was recognized by Archdaily.

I was then offered an internship at Frassinago Garden, a high-end landscaping company based in Bologna, Italy. I learned how to use various landscape software programs and worked on mood boards and small-scale projects.

After moving to the USA, I acquired a job in a construction company that specialized in high-end motorized pergolas. At first, I was hired as an assistant manager and landscape architect, but the company model changed, and my role became the project coordinator. I worked on and ran their CRM system, worked on permits, and was in charge of production processes. Later, I assisted the marketing and sales teams and prepared training modules for new and existing employees.
In 2023, I founded BS Design, a small 3D design firm. My company started offering 3D design to my current employer at the time. I am working on expanding my business, offering different services, from design to vegetation books.

In 2024, I got a job as a Landscape Designer in Reisterstown, Maryland. The company I work for has been honored with numerous awards and has been recognized by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), the Landscape Contractors Association MD-DC-VA (LCA), and the Building Congress & Exchange. The company model is a commercial bid-build, and the residential department is a design-bid-build. I work in the residential department, creating various landscape designs, from pollinator gardens to high-budget residential outdoor living spaces. I help with the marketing for that department as well.

As I look toward the future, I am fueled by a solid aspiration to engage in large-scale environmental design projects. I hope to contribute to projects that not only meet immediate needs but also inspire a deeper connection to the environment and promote long-term ecological balance.
